A root canal is a simple and virtually painless office procedure. Dr. Barbosa drills a small hole in the tooth and scoops the inside of the root out. It is refilled with a rubbery substance before the entry hole is filled, and the tooth is prepared to receive a crown. Since adult teeth have already grown and erupted, the blood supply and nerves inside the roots are no longer required for health.
